bluegills on the fly
i went out today and did a little fly fishing for bluegills. i caught several nice fish with some very nice color. all were caught on a small standard popper. i have been fishing only once since i sold my bass boat last summer. hopefully this marks the start of some nice spring fishing. i have set up the duck boat so i can run a tolling motor from the bow, i just need to find the time to get out.

Now those REALLY ARE purty fish!! :)
I just bought a flyrod especially for largemouth and bluegills.....and I'll be taking it with me on our next trip to SWFL.
I'm a big fan of terrestrial flies....but poppers, huh?
i like the terrestrials too. right now they are loving the small poppers.
Great Pics in this post!
I think I'll be taking the flyrod out for some blue gills this weekend. Great idea.
I love fishing with these “Mini-Popper/Chugger” floating fly thingy’s you have shown. In Minnesota, these work well at dusk when the surface feeding begins. I have to add a clear float/bobber to the rig because I don’t have a useable fly rod (just a preserved, antique one). I noticed these type flies get too wet and start to sink after a few minutes.
awesome Pictures!! Great blog! You got a new follower
Great Pictues, I love the blog too. Don't know too much about fishing as a sport, just do it now and then for pleasure! I'm inpressed!
