Camping with the Bowden's

Back in March we had the opportunity to take our good friends the Bowden's to one of our favorite places on earth, Canaveral National Seashore. We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights and had such a great time. There was very little complaining from the kids because they were so busy exploring and fishing. Everyone was able to catch and eat fresh fish. In the end we were all very sad to leave but left having made some great memories.

The Plan

The plan is to resurrect this blog. It has been a couple years since I have posted do to the lack of a computer. Over the last two years I may not have been blogging but I never stopped hunting and fishing. I have lots of catching up to do and many photos to post.

finn's first bass

The fish have been biting so I decided to put all my efforts into getting Finn on his first bass catch. After only a few casts he hooked into a bass that tied him off on some sticks and broke off. He was a little disappointed but pumped up and realizing that he could actually do it on his own, he was ready to catch try again. Two casts later he hooked into a monster. The fish jumped multiple times and drug the boat all around but all the time Finn kept his cool and a big smile on his face. What a great first bass! A few casts later he caught his second bass. I'm very proud of my little fisherman.

It was almost a full moon yesterday and the fish knew it. Finn and I went out for about an hour and caught some beauties.

bass fishing with finn

Finn and I went out a couple days ago to do a little fishing. We didn't catch much but we sure had a good time. He's getting very good at casting.

to the left

Yesterday Johnny and I went out in the lake. We tried to the left in the bigger lake but only caught one bass there. The right produced five bass for us. I will be trying to the left again at some point but I just think the smaller lake gets less pressure.

fishing the new lake

I bought a Jon boat on Monday for $50. A steal of a deal. Today I sailed it's maiden voyage on the lake in our new neighborhood. I have been dying to get out and explore a bit. I only had a couple hours before work so I went right and fished the smaller phosphate pit. I caught five bass and they were all over 2 pounds. The black belly whistling ducks made it difficult to concentrate on fishing but I managed. Its nice to see there is a healthy population of bass in there. Next trip I will go left and check out the larger pit and since it is connected to the other I can only assume it will be just as good.

damn turkeys

We went out this morning for our first real turkey hunt. We had several turkeys fly right over us from their roost. Problem is that they landed on the other side of the river. We called for a bit but with no response so we went searching for them. We never found them but we got to see a lot more of the beautiful green swamp. On the way home we saw some turkeys on a piece of private property. We stopped and called to them. It was fun to watch the Tom strut and listen to him gobble when I would call to him. I took a picture but the zoom only goes so far and the picture leaves much to be desired. If you click on the picture it should make it larger.
