cobia on the coast

i was invited by a duck hunting buddy of mine, nick, to go cobia fishing over on the coast yesterday. my friend johnny went out with us. i havent done much off shore fishing and had never caught a cobia so this was an entirely new experience for me. nick was a top notch guide and put us on the fish. the manta rays we fished under were amazing. ive never been that close to rays that size. these things are huge and if you accidentally hook one, hold on to your seat! we had a great time. big thanks to nick for taking us out.

We are in Minnesota & before modern transportation, people around the Great Lakes, never ate ocean fish because of the abundance of fresh water fish. Unfortunately a lot of the older women in my family have big scars across their necks from thyroid surgery. Probably from the lack of ocean fish in their diets.

Heck yeah. Cobes are a ton of fun, especially around big rays. Lost a huge one on the gaff a couple summers ago. But now's the time to catch the migrating schools. Looks like a fun day
